Dr. Patricia Ojangole

Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank Limited (UDB)

Dr. Patricia Ojangole is the Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank Limited (UDB), a position she has held since 2013.  She has repositioned the Bank as a strategic catalyst for Uganda’s industrialization, economic growth, and sustainable development, delivering impactful financing and non-financial interventions that create jobs, promote inclusiveness, and protect the environment.

A visionary development finance leader, Dr. Ojangole has aligned UDB’s strategy with Uganda’s National Development Plan IV and the ambitious Tenfold Growth Strategy. Her focus areas include driving value addition and industrialization, boosting agricultural productivity across key value chains, expanding the services sector, advancing sustainable finance, digital transformation, and enabling private sector participation in economic activity by ensuring inclusive access to long-term affordable capital. She is widely credited with rebuilding stakeholder confidence in the Bank, making it the preferred partner for transformative investment projects across the country.

In 2025, she was elected Chairperson of the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI), the first woman to hold this position since the Association’s founding. That same year, she was named Banker of the Year 2025 at the African Banker Awards. She has also been recognized as Sustainability Leader of the Year for four consecutive years (2021–2024) by the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards.

Dr. Ojangole holds a PhD in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School, where her research focused on structural transformation, private sector credit and growth: Implications for employment and inclusive growth in Uganda. She also holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance and an Executive Master of Business Administration. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK), a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda and the Institute of Internal Auditors and serves on several high-level boards across Africa.
